Che cos’è reale? Da Platone a Foucault, dalla fisica quantistica al Marvel Cinematic Universe, Alfredo Gatto sfida l’idea che la realtà sia un dato oggettivo e immodificabile. La realtà – o almeno, questa realtà – non ci basta più. Per questo la scienza e la letteratura, l’arte e la filosofia non si limitano a descriverla, ma ne dilatano i confini. È un viaggio attraverso le frontiere della conoscenza, per ripensare i limiti della nostra esperienza e aprire le porte di una nuova filosofia del multiverso. Insegna Storia delle idee e filosofia della cultura, Storia della filosofia e Storia della filosofia moderna all’Università Vita-Salute San Raffaele di Milano. In precedenza è stato ricercatore all’Universidade de São Paulo e all’Institut Catholique de Toulouse. Ha pubblicato C’era una volta la verità. Da Socrate a Judith Butler (ombre corte, 2024).

The book

What is real? From Plato to Foucault, from quantum physics to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Alfredo Gatto challenges the idea that reality is an objective and unchangeable given. Reality – or at least, this reality – is no longer enough for us. For this reason, science and literature, art and philosophy do not merely describe it, but expand its boundaries. It is a journey through the frontiers of knowledge, to rethink the limits of our experience and open the doors to a new philosophy of the multiverse. A radical and surprising essay that invites us to question the boundary between the real and the imaginary.

The author: Alfredo Gatto

He teaches History of Ideas and Philosophy of Culture, History of Philosophy, and History of Modern Philosophy at Vita-Salute San Raffaele University in Milan.
