Chi ha paura di Elena? Qual è la verità su di lei? Elena di Troia suscita pensieri che si allargano intorno a lei: Bellezza, distruzione, fascino, tradimento, guerra. “Una guerra per una donna”. Crediamo di conoscerla, eppure di lei non si sa niente, se non l’effetto che ha sugli altri.

Indagando su una fitta rete di fonti, l’autrice ricostruisce un personaggio vivo e quanto mai attuale che ci rimanda a grandi temi della contemporaneità: l’uso del corpo delle donne, la fabbrica della propaganda bellica, la bellezza da possedere a tutti i costi, da consumare o asservire al potere come strumento di seduzione.

È una narrazione che unisce saggio, racconto, teatro. Si utilizzeranno delle immagini proiettate con il video-proiettore per la presentazione del libro e delle immagini di dipinti come sfondo alle letture.

Who is afraid of Elena? What is the truth about her? Helen of Troy inspires thoughts that radiate around her: beauty, destruction, allure, betrayal, war—a “war for a woman.” We think we know her, yet nothing is truly known except for the effect she has on others.

By investigating a dense network of sources, the author reconstructs a vivid and highly relevant character, reflecting major contemporary themes: the use and control of women’s bodies, the machinery of war propaganda, beauty to be possessed at any cost, consumed, or subjected to power as a tool of seduction.

The narrative combines essay, story, and theater. Projected images and paintings will be used as a backdrop to the readings during the book presentation.
