The book
“Dentro la borsa” (Inside the Bag) is the debut novel by Francesca Spanu, re-released in 2026 by Il Maestrale with an unprecedented ending. The plot follows the clash and connection between Cristina, a young resident doctor in gynecology who is a rigid conscientious objector, and Lidia, a 40-year-old woman determined to terminate an unexpected pregnancy. This confrontation forces the doctor to question her own bourgeois prejudices, pushing her to open her own inner “bag” and finally confront the fragilities and hypocrisies of her past.
