SINOSSI:
Nel febbraio del 1943, le bombe alleate si abbattono su Cagliari. Tra i disperati che cercano rifugio nella cripta di Santa Restituta cè anche una bambina bionda e spensierata, il suo nome è Alice. Non riuscirà a salvarsi, o forse sì, perché sarà lo stesso Libero Solinas a incontrarla, ancora ragazza, ai nostri giorni. Una vicenda che il commissario ricostruirà abbracciando limpossibile, muovendosi tra fatti che prendono lavvio durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale e si spostano dalle misteriose gallerie dellOspedale Civile fino al deserto del New Mexico, per poi tornare nella Città del sole, in un bunker dove si nascondono la genetista Elisa Mahler e suo figlio Joseph Zwilling. Per Solinas non esiste bene o male con cui schierarsi, le uniche ragioni che contano sono come sempre quelle uniche e mai scontate dei singoli individui.

Synopsis:
In February 1943, Allied bombs rained down on Cagliari. Among those desperately seeking shelter in the crypt of Santa Restituta was a carefree blonde child named Alice. She would not survive—or perhaps she did, for it is Libero Solinas himself who encounters her, still a young girl, in our present day. The commissioner’s investigation embraces the impossible, unfolding between events that begin during World War II and stretch from the mysterious tunnels beneath the Civil Hospital to the deserts of New Mexico, before returning to the City of the Sun, inside a bunker where geneticist Elisa Mahler and her son Joseph Zwilling are hiding. For Solinas, there is no absolute good or evil to side with. The only reasons that matter are those of individuals—unique, complex, and never predictable.
